DIY SHELTER

H-Shelters (Heavy Shelter) are made with upgraded steel thickness.  Our standard shelters have 1/4" supported bulkheads with 12g steel structure.  This is well suited for 40' ground cover.  The Civil Defense calls for only 10' ground cover on our shelters to make them perform at their best.  Our Heavy Shelter upgrades the supported bulkheads to 5/8" steel with 8g structure.  This allows the shelter to withstand 60' ground cover.  To go to this upgrade is not needed, however, it's an option we offer if you want a much stronger shelter.

DIY shelters are bare-bones shelters. We send you all the fabricated steel structure, all blast hatches, gas-tight steel doors, vents, foyer, and entrance shaft. We provide a material list to help you get the proper material to finish the build yourself.  We offer consulting and DIY help through the whole process whenever you need it, along with 3D CAD drawings and instructions to help you get your shelter done at a low cost.

We have teamed up with LIne-X to bring the only Line-X coated shelters on the market!  Our standard shelter life span is approximately 150-200 years and the structure is a lock seam, meaning its watertight, but not waterproof.  What is the difference between watertight and waterproof?  Watertight keeps water out when it's a periodic exposure.  But if there becomes sitting water on or around the shelter, small amounts can leak in over a long period of time.  Even though we coat our interiors with high-grade marine sealant paints and primers, this can still be in issue years down the road if our shelter sits in the water.  IF you have your shelter installed in a drier area, this will not be an issue.  However, if your area is prone to water, you will be smart to invest the added protection.  Not only does Line-X protect from ANY water getting in, but it also protects the outer layer of steel for much longer.  This makes the life span well beyond 200 years.  This method is also much more efficient than a 100% welded seamed shelter.  You will pay more to have your shelter 100% welded on seams, and still lose out on the added protection offered by Line-X.

Basic shelters come with everything the standard shelter does, but the only difference is the foyer entrance room (Commonly referred to as decontamination room) is a 7' Diameter structure, minus the floor & storage built into it.  The entrance shaft is also a ladder, not stairs.  This option can be upgraded if needed.  Do note that the stair entrance creates the 90-degree turn for your entrance to be fully radiation protected.
